Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”

Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’  All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

According to Jesus, the most important commands are to love God and to love others. Everything in the Old Testament (Hebrew Bible) - and even in the New Testament - is summarized by these two instructions. 

 

We believe this central teaching of the Christian faith translates into service through acts of love and charity. We love God through our services of worship and through the teaching and study of the Scriptures. We love others through concrete acts of charity, service, and mission.
