Our Core Values
(Who We Are)

Jesus-Centered – We believe Jesus is God the Son in the flesh (“incarnate”), the second Person of the Holy Trinity, and the Anointed One (“Messiah”), sent by God to liberate humanity from our captivity to sin and destruction. Jesus not only offers us salvation for eternity, but he also invites us into the Triune God’s story of love, resurrection, and restoration here and now. Jesus is the lens through which we understand Scripture and the model for living our daily lives. Everything we do is for – and because of – Jesus.

Generously Orthodox – We believe in a “generous orthodoxy.” We aim to find a third-way that moves beyond the conventional dichotomies of conservative evangelicalism and mainline theological liberalism. We desire a path that embraces perspectives, strengths, nuances, and tensions from many different Christian traditions throughout history. We believe the mosaic of Christian theology offers a breadth of understanding of God that cannot be seen when looking through a single theological lens or tradition.

Incarnational – We believe Jesus Christ is embodied in the world today through his disciples (the Church). As a church community, we incarnate and enact the Kingdom of God in the world. We work for reconciliation, peace, and justice in our community through tangible acts of love and service. We believe all people bear the image of God and are equal in status, gifting, and ministry service. As the living image of Jesus Christ, we aim to reveal God’s love for all people through our stories, lives, and actions.

Reformational – We believe Jesus Christ is always calling us to reform our actions, our mindsets, and even our beliefs. We believe faith and doubt are not mutually exclusive and that honest, thoughtful questions are the greatest catalyst for developing a dynamic, robust, and durable faith. As we continually reform, we also seek to renew practices of faith and community that have existed in various Christian traditions throughout history, as well as to find new, creative ways to understand and live out our faith.

Missional – We exist as the ongoing mission of the Triune God in the world: to share the good news (“gospel”) of resurrection, restoration, and new life (“salvation”), and to make disciples of Jesus. In the Biblical narrative, the Father sends the Son, the Son Sends the Spirit, and the Spirt sends the Church. We participate in God’s mission in two primary ways: 1) evangelism, and 2) social justice work. Evangelism is sharing the gospel with those who have not received the new life Jesus brings. Working for justice and equity in our community and in the world offers people a living image of God’s Kingdom.
